A warm welcome to the skirt wearing spanner wielding community!
You have reached a place where we can all rejoice about being the special 11% of the engineering community which have the same thing in common. That’s right, we’re women.
I’m 19 years old, and have just finished my 2nd year at university, studying electronic engineering. Not very spanner wielding I know, but the name is catchy, and I didn’t want to exclude my other disciplined sisters. I’m about to embark on a years placement at a firm in London, earning real money and putting the skills I’ve learnt over the past 2 years into operation. This is really exciting but also incredibly daunting. But we’ll get to that later.
This blog is intended to help the women engineers who are just branching out like myself, starting up like I was, and those who are fully fledged like I will be one day, to meet up, and communicate. In this male dominated industry it’s always good to instill a little bit of comradery! I myself sometimes feel a little bit alone in my choice of vocation, and I hope that this blog will eventually be filled with women supporting each other, and rejoicing in the fact our occupation generally gets jaw dropping responses.
I hope that my ramblings and experiences make a difference somewhere to someone like myself : )
